If you’re looking for the softest, driest riding center console boat for your St. Augustine fishing charter, you’ve found it! Head out with Captain Scott to experience world-class fishing in first-class style. Scott is dedicated to providing you with an exciting, fun, safe, and comfortable trip filled with unforgettable memories. One trip with him and you’ll be hooked! **8 Hour Trips:** you’ll typically fish various live bottom areas, wrecks, and reefs located 25 - 40 miles from shore. Commonly caught species include Snapper, Triggerfish, Kingfish, Porgies, Grouper, Sea Bass, Cobia, and more. **10 Hour Trips:** The extra time allows Captain Scott to take you out further to fish deeper water in the 40-50 mile range, where he likes to target Grouper, Tuna, Mahi, Snapper, Triggerfish, Porgies, African Pompano, Cobia, Amberjack and more. Prices include fuel, ice, bait, rods/reels, tackle, fishing licenses, and fish cleaning at the end of your trip. You only need to bring your food and drinks. No matter which duration you choose, Captain Scott's 27-ft Center Console built by top-tier custom builder, Southport. Thanks to its incredible hull design and 9’6” beam (full foot wider than most boats under 32-ft), it’s the softest riding, driest, and roomiest boat in its class. She’s powered by twin 250hp Yamaha 4-stroke engines (think quiet, and no oil or gas smell like 2-strokes and diesels) that push her along at 55+ mph. Yes, she is easy on the eyes, but the greater beauty is found in how she handles the open ocean. Why Choose Captain Scott? Let us count the reason: 1. More Fishing Time His 27' Southport cruises at 30-35 knots, getting you on the fish fast. Thanks to his Rhodan GPS trolling motor, he can anchorlessly keep the boat stationary with the click of a button, and can easily move spots if the bite is cold, wasting no time at all. His high-res CMOR Mapping chip has helped us amass hundreds of great spots. 2. Family Friendly As a father of two young children who love to fish, Capt. Scott knows how to keep kids having fun and catching fish all day long. A primary reason Scott chose his 27’ Southport was to ensure his own kids feel safe and comfortable when going offshore with him. 3. Comfort In addition to the boat’s soft, dry ride, you’ll be spoiled by his e-Sea Rider bean bag chairs and Sea-Deck cushioned floors whether you’re sitting or standing. The massive 11 ft. T-top provides tons of shade, and the step-down bathroom (head) has 6’ of stand-up clearance. 4. Flexibility While it is always the captain’s call regarding whether sea conditions are safe enough, it’s important that you enjoy your fishing charter. If conditions are “safe” but rough, Captain Scott will find a better day to take you or issue a refund. He watches the forecast closely and communicates early, often, and clearly. 5. Exceeding Safety Standards Captain Scotts #1 priority is safety. In addition to all Coast Guard required safety gear, his boat is equipped with a 6-man Coastal Commander life raft, Furuno radar, an EPIRB, 2 Personal Locator Beacons (PLB), 3 VHF radios (1 handheld) with GPS and Distress buttons. 6. High-Quality Gear Like his boat, his fishing gear is of the highest quality as well. From the Star Rods and Shimano & Penn reels, down to Yo-Zuri fluorocarbon leaders and Mustad circle hooks - everything on his boat is top-notch. Scott spares no expense to ensure your adventure is amazing. So what are you waiting for? Pick your date and book now! Read More

Fishing in St. Augustine
trip description for Captain's Choice - 24' Tidewater in St. Augustine

The estuaries of St Augustine hold some of the best inshore fishing in the world. Redfish, Trout, Flounder, and Sheepshead all call this beautiful place home. Inshore fishing is available year-round. Bruiser Cobia, and smoker Kings are in the area most of the year as well. Usually just a couple miles offshore. For these Captain's Choice Trips, Captain Adam will take the weather and seasonal considerations into account to decide whether trolling the nearshore waters for a Cobia, Mackerel, Bull Red combo or sticking inshore to catch Redfish, Flounder, Trout, and Sheepshead will yield better results. He is also willing to take your goals and preferences for the day into consideration as well, but be warned weather can be a serious limiting factor for offshore fishing. No matter what the captain and you decide, the ride out is in a state-of-the-art, whisper-quiet boat, aptly named Reel Adrenaline.  You can sip your coffee, and talk at a normal voice.  No smelly diesel fumes, or load engines to spoil your trip.  The boat has a bow with a Carolina flair, making it the driest ride in the ocean. State-of-the-art electronics paired with Captain Adam's lifetime of saltwater fishing experience means you will go home with sore arms and big smiles. The fishing gear is likewise state of the art and compact. No broomstick-sized rods, and clunky reels on this vessel.  Every consideration has been made to make your angling the experience of a lifetime.  Welcome aboard! What is mahi mahi fishing in Jacksonville all about?

Mahi Mahi, also known as dolphin or dorado, are vibrant and exciting offshore species that attract anglers to the waters near Jacksonville. These pelagic fish are known for their dazzling colors, impressive speed, and acrobatic displays when hooked. Mahi Mahi are often found in offshore waters around floating debris, weed lines, and structures where they congregate in search of prey. Jacksonville's proximity to the Gulf Stream and offshore structures creates an ideal habitat for Mahi Mahi, providing anglers with thrilling opportunities for offshore fishing adventures.

Anglers targeting Mahi Mahi in Jacksonville commonly use trolling as a primary technique. High-speed trolling with brightly colored, flashy lures or natural baits like ballyhoo is effective in enticing strikes from these predatory fish. Mahi Mahi are attracted to the commotion created by the trolling lures, and their voracious feeding habits make them susceptible to well-presented offerings. Additionally, anglers often deploy teasers or spreader bars to mimic a school of baitfish, increasing the chances of enticing Mahi Mahi into the area.

The Mahi Mahi season in Jacksonville typically peaks during the warmer months, from late spring through early fall, aligning with the fish's migratory patterns along the Atlantic coast. These months provide optimal conditions for offshore fishing excursions, and anglers can capitalize on the abundance of Mahi Mahi in the offshore waters. The combination of the fish's striking appearance, impressive fights, and the offshore adventure makes targeting Mahi Mahi a highlight for anglers exploring the diverse and dynamic waters off the northeastern Florida coast.

What techniques are popular for catching mahi mahi fishing in Jacksonville

Mahi Mahi fishing in Jacksonville involves employing a variety of effective techniques to entice these vibrant and fast-swimming pelagic species. Trolling is a popular and productive method, with anglers deploying brightly colored lures, such as skirted baits or artificial plugs, behind the boat. High-speed trolling at varying depths allows anglers to cover large areas and imitate the movement of prey, attracting the attention of Mahi Mahi. Additionally, incorporating natural baits like ballyhoo into trolling spreads enhances the appeal, as Mahi Mahi are drawn to the commotion and movement in the water.

When targeting Mahi Mahi, anglers often keep an eye out for floating debris, weed lines, or structures in offshore waters. These areas act as magnets for Mahi Mahi, providing both shelter and a hunting ground for prey. Once located, anglers switch to casting or pitch baiting techniques, using live or cut bait like squid or small fish to entice strikes. The visual excitement of Mahi Mahi chasing and striking bait near the boat adds an extra layer of thrill to this method, making it a favorite among anglers seeking an interactive and dynamic fishing experience.

Deploying teasers or spreader bars is another effective technique for Mahi Mahi fishing in Jacksonville. These artificial bait clusters mimic a school of baitfish, creating additional attraction and encouraging Mahi Mahi to approach the boat. Anglers often use teaser setups ahead of their trolling lures, enhancing the chances of drawing Mahi Mahi into the vicinity. The combination of trolling, casting, and teaser techniques provides anglers with a versatile and exciting approach to targeting Mahi Mahi in the offshore waters off Jacksonville.

What other species are popular in Jacksonville?

Jacksonville's diverse waters offer anglers a multitude of species to target aside from the exhilarating pursuit of Mahi Mahi. Red Snapper, a prized offshore species, inhabits the artificial reefs, wrecks, and structures in the offshore waters near Jacksonville. These vibrant and delicious fish are known for their distinct appearance and firm white flesh, providing anglers with both a challenging fight and a rewarding catch. The regulated Red Snapper season ensures sustainable fishing practices while adding a thrilling element to offshore excursions.

For inshore anglers, the pursuit of Flounder is a popular endeavor. These flatfish inhabit the sandy bottoms of estuaries, tidal creeks, and nearshore areas. Flounder fishing often involves using live bait such as mud minnows or finger mullet, as well as soft plastic lures bounced along the bottom. The unique challenge of Flounder fishing lies in their ambush-style feeding behavior, requiring anglers to present baits strategically to entice strikes. Jacksonville's inshore waters provide a rich habitat for Flounder, making them a sought-after target for anglers exploring the backwaters.

Cobia, another formidable species, is often found nearshore and around structures such as wrecks and buoys. Known for their powerful fights and impressive size, Cobia are targeted using live bait like eels or pinfish, as well as artificial lures. Best fishing day ever! We told Captain Troy we were serious about getting "keeper" fish to eat, and he did not disappoint. A full 12-hour trip into the Atlantic got us 46 delicious keepers (variety of snapper species, Jacks, Cobia, trigger fish, and more) with plenty of non-stop action, thanks to Troy's laser-focus on the fish. He provided good coaching on the best methods to drop our lines and haul up the bounty. He kept the boat on top of fish continuously, and had us haul up our lines as the boat drifted off so he could reposition the boat back over the fish. We literally spent no time at all just hanging out waiting for bites in an empty ocean. He knows some good spots; for the most part we were the only boat on the water as far as the eye could see; we only noticed a couple of other boats wander over toward us in one location. Action also included fighting with one or two giant groupers (line snapped off before we could get them to the boat) and a couple of small sharks. It got exciting when we had to quickly haul in a snapper to save it from the jaws of an impressive 6-foot hammerhead. Overall an exciting, successful, exhausting day on the water from sunup to sundown. Enjoyed grilled Cobia and Jack kabobs for dinner that evening.

Our 6-hour in-shore fishing trip with Captain Billy was such a great time! He's definitely done his fair share of charters and we were lucky enough to catch quite a few fish. He followed all sizing restrictions and made sure we were on fish at every spot we went to. After, he showed us the proper way to clean fish. We will most definitely do another charter with him in the future.
