trip description for Clear Lake Speckled Trout Special in Clear Lake Shores

Captain Kerry and crew usually like to meet up at Schaefer's Coastal Bar, but are more than happy to pick you up from any restaurant or Hotel on Clearlake/Kemah area. Seatrout are ambush predators, They can sit still and wait for a passing meal and then quickly grab it with their large teeth. They primarily feed on shrimp and baitfish such as mullet, pinfish, and pigfish. They are not picky, however, and will eat a huge range of live, natural, artificial baits and flies. I primarily fish for seatrout using artificial lures. Along the edges of flats in water 2-4 feet deep, trout can be caught using jigs with a soft plastic tail or a noise-making cork and plastic shrimp combo. In these locations, it is common to catch numerous fish in the 12-20 inch range. Up on the shallow grass flats, larger trout will lie in and along sandy spots, using them as ambush points. Anglers can blind cast across these areas using a soft plastic jerk bait or they can wait until individual fish are spotted and cast to them. Trophy-sized trout over 24″ are extremely sensitive to boat noise and will quickly swim off if they become aware of your presence. The spotted seatrout, or speckled trout as it is sometimes called, is found throughout the Gulf of Mexico region all year long. They account for the biggest number when it comes to the amount of fish caught by recreational anglers here. Local anglers usually refer to them simply as “trout”. While they make appear similar to freshwater trout, specks are in the drum family along with redfish, croaker, and black drum. The inside if their mouth is yellow and they generally have one or two large fangs in front surrounded by smaller teeth. Their scales are small and they are a delicate fish that cannot take much handling. Their bodies are covered in spots to help them hide in the grass beds. Seatrout are generally easier to catch for inexperienced or novice anglers. The fish in deeper water do not require the casting skill that is needed to sight fishing for redfish. typical blind casting technique with a wide range of retrieves will entice these fish to bite. Having a dehooking device while eliminating the need to handle every fish. Using barbless hooks will cause less damage to them and help ensure a healthy release. These fish are very tasty and fun to catch. You'll love having a freezer full of trout you can eat year-round!! These trips are for anglers of all skill levels and ages. No matter if you’re a beginner or a seasoned professional, Captain Kerry will lead the way and take care of everything! They will provide all the bait, tackle, rods, and gear. You only need to bring food and drinks and Texas saltwater fishing license. Read More

We had the best time with Captain David! He was so nice and fun to fish with. I had never saltwater fished and he was very patient with me. She showed me how to bait the hook and did it for me until I was comfortable doing it myself. No judgement. He was an all around good guy! Took us to several spots and put us in fish every spot. We caught black drum, croakers and red drum. He took me to his Hail Mary spot ( shhh it’s a secret). And I caught a 15 pound Red Drum. He helped me step by step land it into the boat. It was so much fun and he was as excited as I was. We saw a mama and her baby dolphin and he took me as close as he could to them so I could get some pictures because he knew I was excited to see them. On the way back to the pier he told us some history and info about the things we were seeing. I will definitely book with Captain David next time we go down there.

Brant is an amazing guide. He genuinely cares about you having a safe and memorable trip. It was a bit warm and crowded but we did catch a lot of fish many small trouts a couple of black drum and ultimately ended with 5 trouts that were legal a one black drum. We caught more cats than we could count but quickly threw those back. Brant enjoys fishing and will spend as much time as you want teaching you all he knows about fishing and the area. We will definitely be back. Thanks for a great trip Brant.

We had some free time while in Houston and booked a last minute fishing trip with Captain Leb. He was not able to take us out but set us up with Captain Colton. Captain Leb was very responsive and professional in making sure that everything was set up smoothly for us. And our trip with Captain Colton was great, had a great time catching a variety of fish. I highly recommend both Captain Leb and Captain Colton.

Awesome time, great guide. Even with crappy weather, we still caught a ton of fish. Highly recommend!

Capitan Morgan and Colton were a blast! It felt like I was catching them as soon as the bait hit the water. The pair were also very easy to talk to. It felt like we were fishing with friends. They were so helpful, did a great job all the way around. I felt like I learned new things about the fish and the area. They also did a great job cleaning the fish and giving helpful tips on how to cook the catch of the day. While all this praise about the two mentioned above I hope it won't overshadow how great the fishing actually was. My husband catch his biggest catch while on this fishing trip! This was a surprise birthday celebration for my father in law, and he absolutely loved it. It was his first time going on a charter, and I can garentee we will be back again. My husband and I have been on several fishing charters, and this one definitely was one of the best. I'd highly recommend going here for your next fishing trip!

Great experience from start to finish. We had a lot of fun on our fishing trip. Captain Leb was very knowledgeable and had everything we needed for the day. He helped teach all of us the ins and outs to catching reds and flounder. He even stopped in to this spot where we got burgers and he cleaned all of the catch we had. We will definitely be back again! Thanks!!
