trip description for Fly Fishing Cancun in Cancún

If you're looking to get serious about fly fishing in Cancun, Captain Orlando is your man. On this 8-hour trip, Captain Orlando will motor between spots from Cancún's lagoons and canals out to remote flats 30mi down the coast if that's where the fish are! Cancun is known for its Juvenille Tarpon. These acrobatic fish pack a huge punch and are incredibly fun to catch on a fly rod. All the fishing is sight fishing, mainly with a fly, but Captain Orlando always keeps a spinning rod on deck as well. Captain Orlando will instruct you how to cast past the fish and strip the line past the front of its nose, presenting a tiny morsel the fish can't refuse! While Captain Orlando is happy to accommodate anglers of all skill levels, we recommend getting some practice in with your cast in the days and weeks leading up to your trip so you can make the most out of your adventure. Sight-casting for these elusive fish requires a bit of accuracy, and anglers who are already comfortable casting will make the most out of this trip! You’ll spend the day onboard Captain Orlando's maneuverable skiff boat that will have no problem navigating the shallow flats and inshore waters. Captain Orlando takes care of everything for your fishing charter. He will provide all fly and light tackle rods and reels, a cooler with 6 liters of purified water, 4 soft drinks, and 4 sandwiches to keep you energized on the water. All you need to bring is a Cancun fishing license. We recommend also bringing a hat, sunscreen, and polarized sunglasses. After the trip Captain Alberto will even fillet any keepers – all you need to worry about is how to cook your delicious haul! Read More

Wonderful, wonderful trip! Brandon, Christian and Hugo are wonderful and made sure we caught fish! Highly recommend these folks.

Leonardo was fantastic with communication and letting us know the weather. While unfortunately the weather wasn’t good enough for the port to be guaranteed open during our trip, Leonardo did his best to get us out there as safely as possible for 3 different days. I can’t speak for the fishing, but for everything else Leonardo was a 11/10.

I’ve always wanted to catch a tarpon on the fly. It’s been on my bucket list for years, so when we planned our trip to Cancun, I look for an opportunity after booking the trip I was obviously excited to get the chance to fill one of the things on my bucket list, however, when I didn’t plan on, was getting very sick, just a few hours before Orlando, my guide was picking me up. As bad as I felt, I went and waited in the lobby for him to arrive. He had to go through a lot of trouble to get through security, but when I met him, he was all smiles. As we rode through the city to his boat I didn’t say a word, because I felt so ill, and after loading the boat and headed out under the water, it was only a matter of moments before he put me on fish, in my weakened state, I could barely throw the fly. However, he kept pointing out fish after fish, and after a few times resting, I finally filled that bucket list. Orlando was so patient with me and very generous. Not only was he an excellent guide he was a very, very good guy. I hope one day I can go back and fish with him again when I feel better Orlando worked very hard to get me on fish , and if I felt better, I’m sure I would’ve caught several more. We did catch more than that one but because I was so sick I laid in the bottom of the boat mostly. It wouldn’t have mattered if we didn’t catch fish I think I would’ve enjoyed spending the time on the water with Orlando. he genuinely wants you to catch fish. In my second state, he couldn’t tell how excited I was but I could sure tell how excited he was. Thanks again Orlando!! Tight lines!!!

We had a great experience with Captain Miguel and crew on the Christine 1. Prompt departure with all the gear ready to go. We caught bait fish to start and then tried our luck for larger species. At one point there were 4 of our group members reeling in a catch! Water, soda and beer were included. There was a bathroom available and a nice covered area to stay out of the sun. Captain Travis was also prompt in communications prior to the trip to confirm details and provide instructions for our outing. I would highly recommend and hope to return for another trip in the future for a trophy catch!

The trip was amazing. They don’t lie when they say you don’t come in unless you catch a fish. I took my 8 year old. We trolled deep see for 5 hrs had 2 separate 100 to 150lb sailfish attacking the bait. Unfortunately no hook set but no worries. Travis and the guys took us closer inshore for an hour on the way back and my son reeled in 2 big triggerfish 2 yellow snapper a barracuda and an amberjack. So finishing stony with 6 fish and seeing the two sailfish chasing the bait was awesome. Not to mention your catching live bait pretty much the whole time.

I highly recommend Orlando. The communication before the trip was great and he went the extra miles (literally) to pick me and drop me off at my hotel so I didn't have to mess around with early morning taxi or Uber. Fishing was tough but we got some baby tarpon on fly and when conditions weren't suitable for fly rod we switches to spinning rod and caught more. Also got to see some remote backwater and the resident crocodiles. Made you think twice before putting hand in water to retrieve a snagged fly!

The trip itself with my guides was more than I could have hoped for. Not only were they extremely helpful, put us on fish, and instructed well, but they even took pictures for us, gave us a history of the Tulum Ruins and gave us a little snorkeling adventure with stingrays and sea turtles. This entire part was a 5/5 stars. The disappointing part 1/5 stars was the whole reason I booked through Capt. Experiences. According to the booking through this website the total trip was supposed to be $650. I paid "$97" through the website for a deposit. That came out to $130 on my credit card. When I showed up, I still had to pay the full "$650.00" in order to go on the trip, thinking that deposit was more of a holding fee like a deposit on a rental car. Nope, that was also added to the price, now I'm at $750 for this trip. The QR code that was supplied to me to pay the rest. The gentleman at the desk said he doesn't need that. I explained the deposit situation and he insisted his price was correct. Cool, way to vet the companies Capt. Experiences. Now for the Icing on the cake. When I went to the actual company webpage the same trip costs $550! So, you have guarantied that I will never use this service again and let others know of my experience of being ripped off, from a company that says they find the best which would include not getting ripped off. I get paying more as paying more, you're cost being $650, I was ok with that, even though $100 for your service was a bit steep, but hey, you guaranty the companies are vetted and only the best. That should be worth something. But, Oh wait, I still got ripped off. Never again. Total waste of time and money.

If I could give more stars a would. Ramon and Diego were amazing and I would love to go back we caught six barracuda and almost had an El Dorado but I lost it right at the end.

These guys are awesome! You wont find a more professional operation in Tulum. They picked us up from our hotel, made sure we were prepped with sunscreen and everything else we needed to get out there, and had water, soda, and beer on board in pre-stocked coolers for us. Each boat had a captain and a mate who worked hard together to put us on the fish, and between the 3 boats our group took out we caught a bunch of mahi and the biggest barracuda Ive ever seen. -Attison from Captain Experiences

Our group of four had a blast! We caught three large Mahi Mahi and the guys were nice enough to fillet them for us to take home. After fishing, we stopped for a snorkel break where we swam with sting rays and sea turtles. I recommend these guys to anyone looking for a quality, affordable fishing trip out of the heart of Tulum! I wish I had more time in Tulum to use them for other outings.
