trip description for After Work Bass Slam in Austin

Head out with your pro guide Aaron for an action-packed day of Bass whacking on Lake Walter E. Long! For the most part you'll be targeting Largemouth Bass on these lakes, but Aaron occasionally targets Stripers, Sandbass, Crappie, and Catfish as well. He likes to target these species on light tackle gear using a variety of soft plastic and hard baits. Whichever flavor suits your fancy, Aaron can definitely accommodate. Aaron can take up to 2 guests on these half-day adventures. You will be fishing aboard his 19ft 2021 Skeeter ZX150 bass boat, which is suited to all your need. The vessel is powered by a 150 Yamaha VMAX SHO engine that will power you across the smooth surface of the lake with speed. Aaron masterfully guides the vessel to put you on your prey, taking you to his favorite fishing holes on the lake. Aaron can provide all the fishing gear for you: rods, reels, artificial lures, and light tackle for you, but feel free to bring your own if you'd like as well. Otherwise feel free to bring your favorite snacks, drinks, and don't forget your Texas fishing license. Get ready to whack some bass! Read More

What is fishing in Brazos River all about?

The Brazos River, winding its way through the heart of Texas, offers anglers a wealth of fishing opportunities amidst its scenic beauty and diverse ecosystems. As one of the longest rivers in the state, the Brazos River provides habitats for a wide variety of fish species, making it a prime destination for freshwater fishing enthusiasts. From its headwaters near the panhandle to its mouth on the Gulf Coast, the Brazos River offers anglers the chance to reel in prized catches such as largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, and white bass.

One of the highlights of fishing in the Brazos River is the chance to explore its various sections, each offering its own unique angling experiences. In the upper reaches of the river, anglers can enjoy fishing in clear, rocky streams and riffles, targeting bass and sunfish amidst the rugged beauty of the Texas Hill Country. As the river flows downstream, it widens into larger pools and reservoirs, providing opportunities for both bank and boat fishing for a wider range of species.

In addition to its diverse fishing opportunities, the Brazos River also offers anglers the chance to enjoy the peaceful solitude of nature while pursuing their passion for angling. Whether casting from the shoreline, wading in the shallows, or floating downstream in a kayak or canoe, fishermen can immerse themselves in the tranquility of the river's surroundings and enjoy the thrill of hooking into some impressive catches. With its scenic beauty and abundant fish populations, the Brazos River is truly a haven for anglers seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and reconnect with the great outdoors.

What are the most popular months to fish in Brazos River?

The Brazos River, coursing through the heart of Texas, offers anglers a diverse array of fishing seasons shaped by the changing rhythms of the year. Spring ushers in the prime fishing season as warming temperatures awaken aquatic life and trigger spawning activity among various fish species. Anglers eagerly anticipate the arrival of largemouth bass, catfish, and sunfish, which become more active and plentiful in the river's waters. Whether casting from the shoreline, drifting in a boat, or wading in the shallows, springtime along the Brazos River provides ample opportunities for anglers to test their skills and reel in some impressive catches.

As summer unfolds and temperatures rise, fishing along the Brazos River shifts focus to the cooler, deeper waters of its reservoirs and tributaries. Largemouth bass remain a popular target during this season, with anglers targeting them around submerged structure, rocky banks, and shaded areas using a variety of techniques such as topwater lures, crankbaits, and soft plastics. Additionally, the summer months present ideal conditions for targeting catfish, which become more active in the warm waters. Whether bank fishing, kayak angling, or navigating the expansive waters by boat, summer in the Brazos River offers anglers the chance to escape the heat and enjoy some quality time on the water while pursuing their favorite fish species.

As the year progresses and autumn approaches, fishing along the Brazos River enters a transitional phase characterized by changing water temperatures and shifting fish behavior. Cooler weather prompts fish to become more active, particularly in the shallows, where they feed voraciously in preparation for the colder months ahead. Crappie fishing, in particular, experiences a resurgence during the fall season, with anglers congregating around submerged brush piles and other structure to target these prized panfish. Whether seeking the thrill of a bass strike or the challenge of hooking into a feisty crappie, anglers along the Brazos River find themselves spoiled for choice as they navigate the changing seasons and diverse fishing opportunities that the river has to offer.

Bank fishing provides an accessible and relaxing way to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Brazos River while trying one's luck at reeling in some impressive catches.

Another favored technique among anglers in the Brazos River is kayak fishing, which offers a more adventurous and immersive fishing experience. Kayak anglers can navigate the river's gentle currents and explore secluded fishing spots inaccessible by larger boats. This allows for a closer connection to nature and the opportunity to target a variety of fish species, including bass, catfish, and crappie, in their natural habitat. Kayak fishing on the Brazos River provides anglers with a sense of freedom and exploration as they glide silently across the water, enjoying the serenity of the river's surroundings.

For those seeking a more traditional fishing experience, fly fishing presents an exciting challenge on the Brazos River. We had a great experience with Captain Kevin. He has a great rig, great personality and put us on enough Large Mouth to please me. I took my 10 year old son because he said he wanted to catch a large mouth. Kevin came through with an extra life jacket too (I forgot one for my son). One hiccup was we were going to meet at different lake but they closed it due to the horrible drought we are in. Kevin audibled and we meet at Lake Bastrop which was more convenient for me anyway. I would definitely recommend this easy to use app and would definitely hire Captain Kevin again. He had everything we needed and got us catching fish quickly. He is really good with kids too!

My experience was wonderful with Captain Kevin! He texted a couple days before the trip to ask if we could head out earlier than our scheduled time due to the heat and go try to beat the weekend rush of recreational boaters. So I met him at the boat ramp, which was very easy to find, at 6:15 and we headed out. The first place we fished was where we caught the biggest fish, pictured below, in the first 20 minutes of fishing. Things were a little slow the rest of the day, but we caught probably around a dozen fish, targeting and catching a variety of different species. . Captain Kevin was extremely friendly, and knows more about fishing than just about anybody I’ve met. He knew I’m a beginner, and was very kind and patient in teaching me and explaining everything to me. We swapped stories, got to know each other, and had the most wonderful time. I would highly recommend fishing with Captain Kevin.

Grant was a very pleasant and helpful guide for my daughter and me. Fishing was slow, on a very hot day. We both caught some nice bass, despite being on the river with several hundred July 4th weekend kayakers and paddleboaters, as well a bat watchers under the bridges. Grant is very knowledgeable and great fun to fish with. Highly recommend.

We had an amazing time out on Lake Travis with our guide Captain Aaron. Aaron reached out to us before our trip to check in and answer any questions we had. He provided great directions to the floating dock to meet him. We had a super fun morning out on the lake fishing for Bass. We got to try several different Rod & Reel combos, and various spots on Lake Travis. At the end of our trip he gave us a tour of Lake Travis! We will definitely book with Captain Aaron again.

Jake brought my brothers and me out onto Lake Travis for Guadalupe Bass. Jake put all of us onto Guads and multiple other species as well. Jake was great with explaining everything he did and how to best use different techniques for catching fish. He was also incredibly friendly and personable and was hands down the best guide I’ve ever been on. This was honestly one of the funnest days of fishing I’ve ever had, and it definitely was for my brothers as well! I will probably make another trip with my brothers in the future with Jake for another great day! I highly recommend Jake to anglers of any experience who want to get on some nice fish and just have a great time! Thanks again for a great time, Jake! Hopefully we’ll get back out there with you again!
